I wanted to run my own wireless router in governors, using the lan coming into my room, but I can't connect to the hub through it. Is there a way to set it up so I can still access it?

This is the first time I've checked back to X-Talk.

After I told the person in pm exactly what I referred to by saying keep it tasteful, I note there were no further comments.

Well according to the pm I got - the thing Hal_Emmerich deems to be "distasteful" is child pornography. That is NOT a matter of taste - It's child abuse and it's illegal.

He asked me to retract my statement. I will do no such thing. I will however clarify that when I say "you are free to watch, or not watch, whatever you want" I AM NOT condoning child abuse. There is no "tasteful" or "distasteful" child abuse - it is all simply wrong.

And no I never did get around to uploading Pink Flamingos.

you have to open a hole in the routers firewall.

click windowskey+r, then type cmd then hit enter then type ipconfig, then type the default gateway into firefox. find the configuration pages and open the port number and ip address of your computer. on DC++ you'll need to. configure your external ip. eg 141.109.108.???

sorry, kind of late now I just realized..

Depends, can you not download them at all (likely a tracker issue) or are they simply slow?

You can't actually open ports because that is all in the hands of TSGgggggggggggggggg

Why can't some people connect to me on the hub? a buddy of mine uses shakespeer I know and every time he trys to get a file it perpetually says "Connecting..." and won't go any further. A few others I noticed that happens to now

You need to use the IP address...

Open Network Utility, and ping the Hub address

EDIT: Reason being something is horribly wrong with the DNS implementation in Shakespeer and it doesn't like No-IP

Are you connected directly to the TSG? EG Wireless (webfx_students / webfx) / wired, or are you running through a router. If through a router, bypass it. If it still doesn't work, try a new user. If it works, it's a preferences issue. If it doesn't, try reinstalling Shakespeer. If all else fails, have your buddy ping you. (Network Utility / Terminal / Command Prompt.) If that fails, it's TSG, otherwise it's a firewall / shitty configuration. If it fails, try a new location (delete /Library/Preferences/System Configuration/ *) If that fails, You're looking at an Archive and install Not preserving users and network settings, or if Snow Leopard, Erase and Install.

EDIT: Is it you/him/both using a Mac?? If it's just him, the above does not apply.

OK... Have him ping your IP Address.

To get your IP Hit (Windows + R), type cmd, hit return. and then ipconfig, return;

Have him open Network Utility, Go to the Ping tab, and type your IP address. If it gets 10/10 then His computer can see yours, if it's 0/10, he's being blocked somehow.

As well, are you both on the same side of campus?
- EG Upper is Mount, Lane, Mac, Lower is Bishops, Chillis, TNT, TriMacs.

One last thing, What is your computer connected to? (EG wireless, ethernet, router)

EDIT Have him make a test account to check for settings problems.

You can connect into the St FX Network via. VPN (there are clients for Linux, OS X and Windows), and connect to the hub that way. Smile

Good thing Hal_Emmerich isn't around any more to complain then (around the Hub at least). I don't think TSG would like this idea either.
