What do you guys think about account sharing?

(account sharing being two or more people posting under the same user name with or without letting other users know that the account is being shared)

Should it be allowed?

Is this any better/worse than one person having multiple accounts?

Or should multiple people be allowed to use one account?

Would you trust a poster if you discovered that the account was actually one that was being shared?

Discuss. I'm looking for intelligent discourse, please.

I'll weigh in on what I think sometime this weekend.

Oh its easy. Anyone can post on any account at anytime. There is no denying that. The question is why would you waste precious time spying, and commiting acts of espionage in an effort to determine exactly who is saying what at any given point of time.

As far as I know this is a free board.

i think its impossible to impede...welcome to internet freedom, you cant control the fingers on the ends of these machines, the more lines and rules and restrictions, the more we divide and multiply...

(that doesnt make any sense what i just typed)

I must be high because that makes total sense to me. It sort of said to me "no one is responsible for the function my computer performs" theres just always an alias such as "xman4life" willing to take the blame for whatever comes out into these boards.

It doesn't make a huge difference, but it's annoying as hell when one person is being an ass and the other is trying to excuse it. It's like one perosn arguning with himself. Is it really that hard to make another account?

I agree completely.

Which is why I find it strangely ironic that you are responding to this topic at all.

What difference does it make?

It's only the internet. Just wait until technology allows multiple people to share one body. Now that will screw you up.

It's not really that it makes a huge difference, you know. It's just a huge breach in security if multiple people were sharing a single account and that account had moderator status, you know. Because at that point, you've got say... 10 - 12 people moderating, instead of the 5-6 that you initially thought. Not only that, but those people aren't held accountable if they ARE sharing an account with moderator status.

That's all.

Again, what difference does it make? It's the internet.

Nothing that happens on X-Talk matters.

Too bad about all those people being fired on the job for blogs and such. But yeah, it's only the internet.

It really depends if your account is a "character" or a person (ie: you)

personally I think it shouldn't be allowed, but then how are we goingto stop people if they are?

Believe that this matters if it makes you happy.

If the account sharers decide to part ways, who gets custody of the account?

Ban accounts that have more than 1 IP address that is used consistently (for example: if a user had at least 5 IP addresses and say... one IP address was consistently coming from Boston... and one from Halifax... and one from Antigonish... and one from Ontario... so on and so forth.)

Users, for example, me, who don't have internet at home and have to use lab computers, will have various IP addresses each time they use a different computer - but they would all be St FX computer lab IP addresses.

I'm talking about when the IP addresses are from different localities at the same time. I doubt someone would use a proxy to do this. That's all.
