We all spend a lot of money to be at University. We're here trying to become better people, get an education and live off what we have. So why is it that we're continuously being gouged for being here?

Why can't StFX simply supply a convenient and beneficial service to students to make our experience an enjoyable one, not one we cannot afford? True, StFX is a business and like any other business it requires money to sustain itself and profit to expand, but there is a big difference between sustaining a business, being profitable, and gouging desperate students with ridiculous prices for things they need.

I am talking about Mini Moes.

How can the school allow Mini Moes to run? The majority of Mini Moes entire selection is between 50%-150% more than the grocery store or even convenience store. Are you telling me you have to sell a energy drink for $4.90 or a bag of chips for $4.00 to make a profit? I don't think so. Mini Moes is priced to simply take advantage of students, in my opinion. Students who don't have a vehicle, who don't have time, and don't have a choice. When something is a necessity and you need it right then, what do you do? You can walk to the store for a roll of toilet paper, do without, or go to Mini Moes and spend enough on one to have gotten two or three anywhere else. Some choices, but I think we've all made them at some point.

But that's just my opinion.

You realize to buy a cheesecake there, (an entire one) would cost upwards of 60 dollars. I mean, imagine how much money you can make just selling cheesecake outside the door, I can get one at Safeway for just under 15 dollars.

The prices are absurd, the only things I've ever found to be what (I consider) a good value is a hamburger at the Sub, $2.75; and the pizza (two years ago, not this last one) when it was down around 3 bucks for a quarter of a pizza at the MSB Cafe.

I have done this, to burn off DCB at the end of the year.

The food at the Sub is pretty reasonable when it is cooked for you, but I am referring more to the retail products that get sold throughout the different outposts like drinks or gum. Where a meal at the sub is reasonable not much else is, mind you. Such as their muffins or fruit or just small things and especially their grab-and-go sandwhiches. Basically anything that is remotely conveniant at StFX is overpriced.

Then talk to the people that matter about it.

Kris Benoit -- Retail Manager kbenoit@stfx.ca

They're working out the prices for some of next year's retail items right now.

Mini Moes teaches you to plan ahead.... if you can get it cheaper some place else buy it there and take it with you. Plan your day on campus considering what and when you will need to eat and bring it with you. Get a mini fridge and go to the store at least one to two times a week for lunch food and snacks. I lived on campus for 4 years and I managed to make my DCB last all semester... and I didn't starve while doing it.

Stir fry at the SUB used to be a decent deal.

To me, after living out on the West coast now for a while, I would say that almost all food on StFX campus is rubbish, unhealthy and completely needs an overhaul.

I honestly find the SUB has more 'bang for your buck' value than Meal Hall / Mini Moes.
