In case anyone else has been repeatedly getting the same error as me (either a direct link no-no, or some kind of linux firefox screw up), the actual image behind any of the placeholders can be found by looking at the link used in the IMG tags, and using it to find the picture.

I'm pretty sure it's something on my end though.
