X-Talk Rules and Regulations

Note: Here is a list of the moderators. The administrator of Xtalk is me, JonSangster

  1. Posts that violate the rules will be edited or removed, as is appropriate. This includes, but is not limited to, offensive language (including profane, racist, sexist, homophobic words and statements), advertising for any sort of business without permission, threats, personal attacks, libel, and advertising for violations of the Criminal Code of Canada. Threads that are in violation of all or any of the above will be closed or removed, as is appropriate.

  2. X-Talk is a forum community of current, prospective, and graduated StFX students, and as such represents a very small and personal community. Arguments ad hominem in nature, as well as posts that could be construed as flaming, encouraging flaming behaviour, trolling, et al. will be removed without previous warning. Users will be privately warned once and then further sanctions will be taken. We tend to be very liberal here on Xtalk, but being intentionally mean spirited does nothing for conversation; if you want to have a word with someone, send them a Private Message.

  3. There is a particular forum for posting your not-for-profit events and services. This is provided solely for the use of StFX students. Creating such a post in another forum in which it does not belong will result in the post being deleted and the user may face other sanctions. Any posts made by a individual, partnership, or corporation advertising a product, service, or event not sanctioned by the Student Union will be removed, and the user will be subject to sanctions.

  4. Posts with severely improper language may, at the discretion of the moderation team, be edited or removed.

  5. Don't share you account with people. Anyone who has ever been affiliated can get an account for Xtalk, so there's no reason for multiple people to be using one account. We don't care if it's just once or twice, but if it becomes obvious, you'll be in trouble.

  6. Threads containing questionable content may, at the discretion of the moderation team, be edited or removed. If you are posting a questionable topic, please put a disclaimer in your title (This may include disturbing photos, pornography, posts that aren't work safe and have no disclaimer, et al.)

  7. Any encouragement or specific discussion on participation or designs for illegal activity will be removed and the use subject to sanction by the moderators.

  8. As of October 17, 2006 all new accounts must be registered with email accounts that end with either @stfx.ca or @alumni.stfx.ca.

  9. Try to put your new topic in the most appropriate forum. You won't be banned or anything if you put it in the wrong spot, we'll just move it on you. More importantly, don't make the same thread in more than one forum! Please do not bump your threads. Excessive bumping causes problems and is annoying to readers and mods alike.

  10. Being able to set your own title is privilege and is for the sake of fun only. Do not use your custom title to misrepresent yourself and try to lead others into believing that you are in a position of power or influence. Example: Do not set your title to Student Union President, unless you are in fact the SU President. Violation of this will result in the normal sanctions, plus you will no longer be able to set your own title.

  11. We don't like deleting or locking threads. And unless there is a very good reason to do so, we won't (People not agreeing with you does not mean that the thread warrants removal). If you have a valid reason for wanting a thread locked/deleted, let us know, but otherwise just think twice before starting a new thread.

  12. If you start a new thread, don't later delete your original post! This won't delete the whole thread and it's just confusing.

  13. Users who are in violation of The Rules will be subject to some or all of the following sanctions:

    1. Users may be warned by a moderator via private message.
    2. Users may be temporarily banned from posting for a short period of time.
    3. Further violation of The Rules may lead to a longer ban, or a permanent ban.
    4. Users who flagrantly or heinously violate the Criminal Code will be reported to the appropriate authorities.

  14. If you do not login to your account for over a year it may be deleted.

  15. At the top of every post you will see a link that says [ Report Post ]. If you think a post is inappropriate you can click on this link to report it to the moderators. This is semi-anonymous; by this I mean the moderators will know who reported the post, but the author of the offensive post will never know who reported the post. You may still PM a moderator if you prefer though.

  16. These rules may be appended to or updated at anytime. It is your responsibility to keep yourself up to date with the current set of rules.
